What if I didn't register before camp, can I still send my camper on the first day?
Although we want to let as many campers enjoy KLD as we can, we are limited to a specific number of open spots each year (depending on field space, the number of coaches we have, and budget). KLD camp usually fills up fast, so we highly suggest that you fill out the online Camper Application form ASAP before camp starts, to improve your chances of getting into KLD. Walk-in campers must come with their parent or guardian so that they can fill out the application at camp to be admitted on a space available basis.
Who are the KLD coaches and how are they selected?
KLD coaches are motivated high school students, who exemplify being a good role model with leadership skills and integrity. They all look forward to being a KLD coach, which is demonstrated by the fact that our coaches volunteer over 60+ hours to make KLD successful and fun, and the fact that almost all of them come back year-after-year to coach our KLD campers. We LOVE our coaches and we know our campers will too - the coaches put the FUN in KLD!
What type of adult supervision is at camp?
There are lead parent volunteers who help the student leaders to organize KLD, and additional parents who volunteer to help during the camp, there are ALWAYS adults at KLD camp.
What is the difference between KLD's "Junior Camp" and "Senior Camp"?
KLD camp is organized into two groups, "Junior Camp" and "Senior Camp". Junior Camp is for the younger campers (those currently in 2nd-4th grade during the school year before KLD starts) and Senior Camp is for the older campers (those currently in 5th-7th grade during the school year before KLD starts). Both camps are then separated into teams (named after different countries), and each team has 2-4 KLD coaches assigned to them for the entire 2-week camp.

Are the Junior and Senior campers kept separate?
The Junior and Senior campers are kept separate while they play soccer and for most of the camp activities; however, there are some camp activities where all the campers and coaches are combined together as one large group (for example, when we have a guest speaker at camp, all the campers will sit together to listen to the speaker...or when the campers ride the bus, they will all be together).
What if my child doesn't have transportation to camp every day?
KLD provides FREE bus rides for campers that cannot get to KLD camp on their own. The buses will pick up campers before camp, and drop off campers after camp, from the same locations every day. Bus pick-up/drop-off locations will be centrally located in Mountain View and Sunnyvale. The exact bus schedule will be emailed (to those that signed up for the free bus transportation on the application) two weeks before camp and posted on the website. Please note: It is the parent responsibility to deliver the campers to the bus and pick them up after the bus. There is not supervision before or after the pick up or drop off. We have campers who walk, ride bikes, get picked up, and take the bus -- transportation to and from camp is parent responsibility. The coaches take roll daily but there is no formal check out to parents at the end of camp.
What should campers wear/bring to camp?
All Campers should come dressed in comfortable, cool clothes (shorts and a t-shirt is best) ready to play soccer (and possibly get a little dirty). We do suggest cleats if you have them, but cleats are not required. We REQUIRE shin-guards, because whether your camper wears cleats or not, there is always a chance they will be accidentally kicked in the shins - and that hurts. We have shin guards your camper can use, if they don't have their own. Most campers bring a small backpack to keep their belongings in (cleats, shin guards, sweatshirt, sun block, etc). We suggest that campers leave valuables at home - although we strive to keep a very safe environment, KLD can not be held responsible for lost or stolen property. We do not provide sunscreen to campers so please plan accordingly.
Should campers bring snacks and water?
Your child does NOT NEED to bring snacks and water (although they should eat lunch before they arrive to camp). KLD provides a lot of water, Gatorade, and regular healthy fruit throughout the day (such as watermelon, strawberries, etc). We always provide plenty of hydrating drinks and fruit, as well as rest/shade time to keep our campers comfortable and safe in the summer sun.
